Happy Birthday to Me

When I was younger, I used to love announcing to everyone that it was my birthday. Today, I wasn’t going to say anything, but as I taught cycling, my kids burst into the room, along with their Kids in Motion classmates, and shouted, “Happy Birthday!” Very sweet.

Wes may have established a new tradition: art as gift. Last year, we picked up two great paintings by Erik Niemi and called them my present. This year, a Sutapa Das, “Dynamic Field.” Toppy, as I call her, paints one dot at a time, using tiny brushes. Check her out.

Proving once again that it’s the intangibles that matter, I enjoyed well-behaved children at a restaurant lunch, and I’m looking forward to having our bike-fiend friends Bryan and Susan swap saddles from my road bike to my tri bike. (It’s an easy operation, but better to leave it to the experts.)
