Here I Am

Here I am, awake in the (very) early morning in Boulder, Colorado. Yesterday the photo shoot for my book began, seven hours of moving myself and my gorgeous, athletic models from pose to pose—flash! flash!—in a sophisticated studio. After lying awake since four o’something, I’m up, making notes on poses we need to redo today and thinking about cover images. When it gets light enough, I’ll take my rental car to Chautauqua Park, to run (or walk, if exhaustion and altitude catch up with me) along the Front Range. Tonight, I’ll meet almost everyone from my publisher’s office, to discuss production and marketing.

Well, how did I get here? (A better question, surely, than My God, what have I done?) The disbelief at my good fortune persists. When will it wear off? How can you fully appreciate something you still don’t quite believe is happening?
