Meet Jo Marchi, who has just finished her certification in Sage Yoga for Athletes! (Start yours at sageyogateachertraining.com.)
We had the great pleasure of Jo’s company in Carrboro last summer for the five-day Teaching Yoga to Athletes intensive. Not only did everyone benefit from her upbeat positive energy and enthusiasm, we were able to pick her brain: Jo works for the University of Colorado at Boulder as an NCAA compliance officer. This means she knows the ins and outs of what is permissible and not for teachers eager to offer yoga to student athletes. (No perks!)
Jo teaches several CU teams, and she offers open classes around Boulder. See her full schedule here. If you aren’t lucky enough to live in Boulder, you can still learn from Jo by checking out the useful videos on her website, which include not just pre- and post-run and ski videos, but also yoga to prep you to shovel snow!
As an athlete herself, and as someone who spends her day in the company and service of athletes, Jo is uniquely and especially qualified to teach yoga to athletes. She appreciates both how yoga can help with conditioning and balance and—as a yin and restorative yoga teacher—how yoga enhances recovery. Make a point of studying with her in person and online, and you’ll be a better athlete for it. You’ll probably smile along the way, too. Get started at jomaryoga.com.
